STEFFI - Different Entities [Ostgut Ton, 2017]
There’s always going to be an album or EP that I’m extremely obsessed with, but I think this album has outlived all my previous obsessions ever. If you want to get shit done, even while traveling somewhere, listen to this; it dragged me through my thesis.
And it’s also great for dancefloors.
ALESSANDRO CORTINI - La Sveglia [Hospital Productions, 2015]
This is one of the very few songs that I never ever skip when it comes up in my playlists. The intensity of it keeps on increasing throughout, absorbing you like a scary thriller - a really good one though. Great for making staring out the window a bit more exciting.
MIKAEL SEIFU & DAWIT EKLUND - Tuff Ruff [1432 R, 2014]
Came across this on youtube a couple of years ago while “studying” (thanks algorithms). Fell in love with every single element of it right away - the vocals, the percussion and the sound of the wata. So, obviously, one hour later I had done nothing but listened to Mikael Seifu’s full discography, and I can confirm it’s all incredible. If you are blessed with a working internet connection on your train; digging into discographies is the best way to kill time.
TRIM - White Room [1-800-Dinosaur, 2016]
UK derived sounds like grime and dubstep are what first dragged me into the whole electronic music thing. I still listen to them quite regularly. A personal favorite is this album from 2016 by Grime MC Trim. It has been produced together with other 1-800-Dinosaur affiliates (and personal favorites!) like James Blake, Klaus and Airhead. White Room, produced by Boothroyd, is my favorite track on there. The contrast between Boothroyd’s dreamy experimental beats, the distorted violin, the high pitched backing vocals, and Trim’s strong and deep voice works very well.
EVA GEIST - 8th Parallel South [Elestial Sound, 2016]
This entire album by Eva Geist sounds like you’re exploring nature, without having to do the actual physical effort to do so. Perfect!
UPSAMMY - Dancing Faries [Die Orakel, 2018]
Great producer, great DJ, great friend. A great track by upsammy. It has a lot of different layers to mentally disappear into.
JOHN FM - Alone (Omar S Mix) [FXHE, 2015]
Public transport has proven itself to be the perfect place to overthink life and end up in the negative spiral of your own thoughts. If that’s what you’re going to do, do it with a good emotional soundtrack like this one by John FM.
