ILDFROST - Slept Awake [CMI, 1997]
Dark ambient Norwegian duo Ildfrost (formed 1992) surprises with an uplifting (but in a way frightening) song on the compilation ‘The Absolute Supper’ released on the Linköping based label Cold Meat Industries.
NJURMÄNNEN - Muinark Lobarap [Djuring Phonogram, 1985]
Swedish synth duo Njurmännen foresaw the future with this industrial trap song in 1985, on the unaptly named ‘Masters 1992’ album. Released on Djuring Phonomgram, a subdivision of the legendary Börft label.
SOFT VERDICT - Multiple 12 [Les Disques Du Crepuscule, 1981]
Belgian Composer Wim Mertens teams up with viola player Frans Vos and presents this beautifully erie composition. The whole comp is great, with music from Peter Gordon and Durutti Column to name a few.
WINNERHOLT & WAHLÉN - Forum [Xenophone International, 1985]
Swedish ambient duo Winnerholt & Wahlén had a very small but wonderful catalog of cassettes and some CD releases. This is brilliant.
ROBERTA EKLUND - Running [Eklund Cassettes, 1986]
American composer, pianist and poet Roberta Eklund did a few tapes in the 80’s, mostly on her own Eklund Cassettes label. Most of them are vocal or piano based, but this really stands out with its perfect tension between soothing and hectic.
ART & TECHNIQUE - Just [Hi-Tec Records, 1981]
Art & Technique was the studio project of French sound engineer Bernard Filipetti, who was involved in the eclectic new wave band Clair Obscur.
